Ireland, Frank Kern, Public Speaking, What to Expect…

I’m sure you’re pretty confused by the title. I really had no idea what to name this post…

I have so many things I wanted to talk about and, to be honest, I really couldn’t think of a more clever title. So that’s what you get…

Ireland
Many people may have noticed that I wasn’t very active during the month of May. I think I only had one blog post, I only mailed out to my list a couple of times total, and I haven’t really been promoting anything. I basically took about 3 weeks off, away from my computer.

My wife and I celebrated our one year wedding anniversary on May 23rd and, coincidentally, May 21st was the one year anniversary of the day that I quit my day job. Neither my wife or I had ever left North America so we hopped on a plane to visit the number one place my wife most wanted to travel, Ireland. We had a wonderful time and it was an amazing way to spend our first anniversary. Had I still been in my previous job, I would have never been able to get that time away.

I won’t go in to too much detail about my trip. Since I’m a life-long computer nerd, I created a travel blog on the flight over there. Both my wife and I made posts pretty much everyday. So if you are interested in what we did and how are trip went, you can visit our Travel Blog Here.

Frank Kern
We were home from Ireland for about three days before my good buddy, Josh Bartlett, came to town from New Zealand. He flew all the way over to attend Frank Kern’s list control seminar with myself and good ole Joe Fier.

We spent the weekend networking with some really cool IMers and listening to some great seminars. I think the highlights of seminar were getting to hear Bill Glazer speak as well as an amazing presentation by Jordan Belfort (AKA The Wolf of Wall Street). Jordan ran an investment firm the got busted for doing some shady  stuff. If you’ve ever seen the movie Boiler Room… That movie was loosely based around his business. Anyway, there’s now a huge film in production with Leo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese all about his life and his business. This guy has gotten his life together and is now crazy passionate about helping businesses. His presentation was the best of the seminar.

Spending a week with Josh, hanging out at these seminars, and networking with all these people has really given me a lot to talk about. I have so many ideas and so many things that I would love to teach, I don’t even know where to start.

If you’ve never had the opportunity to get out to an IM seminar, you absolutely have to. The networking opportunities are usually worth the cost of the seminar alone. I’ve already picked out about 3 more that I’d like to get to this year.

Here’s some pictures of some of the people that I had the opportunity to meet and talk to…

Matt Wolfe & Jordan Belfort

This is me with Jordan Belfort, The Wolf of Wall Street.

Matt Wolfe & Frank Kern

Here’s me with the man himself, Frank Kern. Funny picture though (I was looking at the wrong camera)

Matt Wolfe & Mike Koenigs

This is me with Mike Koenigs, one of the nicest guys I’ve ever met. You may know Mike as the creator of Traffic Geyser or even more recently from his Main Street Marketing launch. Awesome guy!

Josh Bartlett, Jeremy Schoemaker, Joe Fier, and myself.

Public Speaking
So public speaking is one of those things that I’ve never been good at. After going to a few seminars and speaking to a lot of people, I’ve decided that it’s a skill that I should learn. So despite the fact that this blog was started as an Internet Marketing and Blogging site, I may veer off here and there and talk about my journey to become a better public speaker.

This little announcement obviously wasn’t worth it’s own post so I thought I’d throw it in here.

I just did my first live webinar last month, however, I didn’t do most of the speaking and I was staring at a computer screen as opposed to staring at a crowed of people. It was a step closer but my goal is to eventually feel comfortable and at home in front of a large seminar crowed. I’ll get there. I have some ideas of how I’m going to go about doing this. So bare with me if I veer of course on the blog a little here and there.

What to expect….
I mentioned earlier that I have so many ideas of things to talk about now. I did a couple of surveys to customers of my WordPress Classroom and customers of my Autopilot Cash Formula. I asked them about their biggest sticking points and maybe areas where they felt my products may have been a little flat. I received some amazing feedback! I have a really good feel for what type of things everyone is looking for.

What I’m going to do now is I’m going to go back through both programs and create a ton of new videos for each system. I’m going to make sure any gaps are filled and that my programs are some of the best resources you can find on the internet for their respective topics. If you’re already a member, I’m not going to charge any more for any of the additional content. It’s just my way of saying thank you for being a customer.

With that being said, I’m also planning on addressing a ton of the stuff that people are looking for here on my blog. I’ve got loads of tips and techniques that I’m going to give away on this site that will just blow you away. I literally can’t wait to share them.

Here are some the topics I’ll be talking about over the next couple of weeks.

And so many more… I don’t want to list all of my post ideas yet and I have intentionally left those ideas vague. I can promise you though, that the stuff that I’m about to talk about is stuff you probably won’t find any other marketers talking about. So stick around, you will love this stuff.

Please leave some comments and feedback. I love hearing your thoughts…

    Hi Matt
I wish you every success with your journey to become a better public speaker, it’s supposed to be one of the most stressful things in life…I guess it’s like all things outside of your comfort zone, once you’ve do it a few times, you’ll wonder what all the fuss was about, that said I’m looking forward to Reading how you go.
    Cheers
    Steve

    • Matt says:

That’s definitely true. It’s definitely outside of my comfort zone. I used to play in a band and we played in front of as many as 5,000 people at one time. In the beginning I was scared out of my mind but by the end I didn’t think twice about getting on stage…

If only that confidence I built while playing an instrument live transferred over to confidence speaking live. I’ll get there though! Thanks for the support!

  4. Matt.

I’m looking forward to the content you’ve got coming. Was part of List Control myself and noticed that Joe was in it as well.

I’m an MWA 3.0 student and am enjoying the course so much. Have watched your success and your business grow and I picked up APCF. Brilliant product and it’s really helping me in my business right now.

Thanks very much for the product, hope you realise how good it really is.

    Nice one Matt.

  5. Hey Matt,

Good luck with the public speaking thing…..work your way up through bigger and bigger audiences and when you get really big you’ll love every minute of it.

I found out that I love the big crowd scene a while back (in a different career!)…now all I need to do is get famous enough to do it in IM :-)

    • Matt says:

Thanks for the support! I’ll get there. It always stressed me out in school and I thought I’d never have to do it again. Now I feel like it’s the next step for me to really move my career forward. I’ve already turned down a couple of speaking gigs. It’s time to get out of my comfort zone and take that next step.

      Thanks for stopping by!

  6. Hey Matt,

the topics that came out of your customers survey are extremely interesting and I am looking forward to read your posts on them in the next few weeks.
Hope you are also going to share some more of the Shenanigans you were experiencing at the Kern “festival” in San Diego.

    Keep up the good work

I’m sure some of what came up at Frank’s seminar will find the light of day on this blog. There where definitely some shenanigans. A Frank Kern seminar is probably closer to a giant party than it is an educational event… But hey… The networking makes it all worth it.

I can’t wait to talk about some of the ideas that I’ve got coming. I truly think that a lot of Internet Marketers are doing things really wrong (despite the fact that they are making money). My good friend, Josh Bartlett, and I have been talking philosophy a lot lately. I think we’ve got some ground breaking ideas that are going to make people see the IM world in a whole different light. Stay tuned… It’s some really cool stuff!

      Matt

  7. Hi Matt,

Sounds like you had a great time over the past few weeks.

I’m looking forward to seeing the new WordPress videos; your free videos helped me immensely setting up my blog and gave me the momentum I needed to improve my blog.

I understand how you feel about the public speaking thing. I had three speeches to give at my daughter’s weddings and I can tell you it was nerve wracking!

Mind you, my confidence improved a bit by the third one, but then I worried about the content. Never happy!

Glad you’re back and in harness again.

Thanks so much for the comment! I’m glad the WordPress Classroom helped you out.

I’ve got a few tricks of my sleeve to help me get over the public speaking thing. I’ll share how I’m going to crush that fear in to time at all.

      Thanks,
      Matt Wolfe

ah, had I known you were coming, I would have baked a cake! I live in Ireland and give training in public speaking. Anyways, wish you all the best with it, it is a tremendous instrument to have in your collection!

    • Matt says:

Ah man! That would have been perfect! Oh well my wife is set on going back again soon. She absolutely loved it.

Thanks so much for taking the time to comment. I really appreciate it.

  9. Hey Matt,

One suggestion regarding public speaking is to try going to some Toastmaster or Dale Carnegie meetings nearby. Zig Ziglar started his speaking career first with Toastmasters. There is also the National Speakers Bureau and the National Speakers Association. I’m not sure which one of these is where many of the top motivational speakers belong to.

I’m sure you’ll do well with public speaking. I also heard someone in Network Marketing refer to the Law of the Marker, meaning that whoever is holding the marker and giving the presentation is the person who makes most of the money.

    Best of luck,

    Dale Hinton
.-= Dale Hinton´s last blog ..Zig Ziglar on Setting Goals =-.

    • Matt says:

      Hey Dale,
That “Law of the Marker” seems so true! All the biggest guys out there are the ones that can get on stage and speak.

I’ve looked in to Toastmasters and it’s definitely an option. I’ve been looking in to something else that’s very similar that I’ve been thinking about joining also. I’ll be on stage in no time :)

  10. Ryan K says:

Awesome Matt! Glad you are back in action. It is nice to get some clarity on what exactly it is we will take our next steps towards when we get bombarded with so much info every day.

I have been struggling with pinpointing my strengths and where I want to take my business and then to the next level.

I too, am currently in Alex’s coaching program and feel it is turning things around quickly and I know that through it I will come out with a much better view on what and how I am supposed to get these things accomplished.

I was good enough to pick up your special deal you offered on your Autopilot Cash Formula and back to the WordPress Classroom that I got from you late last year. So far, I haven’t been able to plow through much as I have been concentrating on Alex’s course as much as possible, but do look forward to learning your stuff, especially the WordPress Classroom as that will be my main format for building sites in the future.

If you don’t mind hop on over to my site if you get a chance as well as I would really enjoy getting some feedback from other successful coaching students.

One other thing I wanted to ask is , how you gain clarity when you feel overwhelmed with all that might be going through your head, especially after big events like the Frank Kern event. You get to see so many people doing so well, but in so many different directions in the industry. It can be quite the mind overload….!

Thanks for your time and once again, glad to see you back!

    • Matt says:

      Hey Ryan,
Thanks for the comments. I’m glad you enjoyed my products. I’ll do my best not to disappoint with the new content. I understand not having time to get to everything. Focusing on Alex’s class is great because you are taking action. That’s the important part. It doesn’t matter what system you follow as long as you move forward.

As far as staying focused… I’ve got a whole blog post lined up about that. I’ve actually got a trick that I use that many people may be a little skeptical of but it’s worked great for me…

      Matt Wolfe

  11. Hey Matt,

I’m also on Alex’s MWA 3, but I struggled with a few technical bits on my blog, until I got your WP Classroom, so thanks dude! Really appreciated.

Looking forward to your first two topics especially, I’m guessing you’ve picked up some pretty good info from the guys at Frank’s seminar.

Happy anniversary by the way. All the best

Good luck in Alex’s class. Take action on what’s taught and you will go far.

You won’t have to wait long for my 2nd topic… It’s live now :)

      Thanks for the comment man!

  12. Hi Matt- It looks like you and Alana had a fun time in Ireland. You’re photos make me home sick… not for all that rain and fog, but for the pubs, the blarney and those Irish Breakfasts!
I hope you had a chance to visit Leenane, Co. Galway. I believe you were close at the Famine walk, but if you missed it, see the movie, “the Field” for the next best thing although a pint of stout in the The Field pub would be very hard to top.
Leenane is one of the well known beauty spots include Ashleigh Falls and Doolough Valley, scene of the tragic famine walk. A film adaptation of John B. Keane’s famous play “The Field”, directed by Jim Sherdian, was made in Leenane in 1989. Well-known stars taking part included the late Richard Harris, John Hurt and Tom Berrenger
Thanks for a refreshing post and all your help with my WP effort. All the best for always.
    Mike

    • Matt says:

      Hi Mike,
Thanks for stopping by to comment. I can’t remember if we were in Leenane or not. We were in Galway towards the end of our trip and we did a tour of Connemera (sp?). That was absolutely amazing. We learned a lot about the famine history on that tour. It was absolutely beautiful. We will be going back to Ireland one day soon. It’s a great place.

  13. Hi Matt,

Great Blog you have here, was this event in Ireland with Frank Kern?

    JV me!

    Simon

    • Matt says:

      Hey Simon,
The Frank Kern event was in San Diego.

I had so many topics I wanted to talk about, I just jumbled them all in to one blog post. Sorry for the confusion. :)

      Matt

  14. My business partner, Dan Tredo and I are Alex 2.0 students and I bought your AutoPilot Cash Formula, which is spectacular. Josh Bartlett recommended it to me and I did not hesitate to get it in a heartbeat. Now with your updates, it can only improve but it was great already.

Dan and I have personally met a ton Alex Jeffreys students but you and Josh have been a bit illusive. We were in Las Vegas when Josh Bartlet was there but we never did get to meet him. Both of you are great guys in the I.M world.

Dan and I have done a lot of public speaking and we are quite good at it. However, when you are starting out, it is freaky to say the least. Good luck with everything you are doing and we will catch up with you one of these days.

Thanks so much for the kind words! I’ve been going to a lot of seminars lately. They are a lot of fun. Sorry we missed you in Vegas.

I believe I will be at Dan Kennedy’s seminar in Baltimore in November. (Maybe more before that). I’m looking forward to meeting as many people as possible (despite the fact that I’m quite quiet in person)

  17. Hi Matt,

    I wondered where you’d gone..

Looks like a great holiday, I’ve been to Ireland a couple of times. One on a day trip to Dublin when we were staying in North Wales, and again mainly to Northern Ireland but we went over to the Slieve League cliff which are a bit like one of your photos. Hoping to go again and see more.

Did you leave support staff handling your business while you were away, or were you online some of the time?

    Thanks

I had the great support team of Joe Fier and James Howard handling my business while I was away and they did an amazing job. I can’t thank them enough. I popped in from time to time but they mostly handled everything.

  20. Hey Matt,

I must have been in some soccer/alcohol induced coma over the past few days as I completely missed both yours and Joe’s blog updates!

You’ve covered a lot of stuff in this post and I am sure your mind is buzzing after attending the event – I know mine usually is after speaking to other marketers face-to-face.

Your public speaking ambition is great – it’s pretty lucrative and possibly the most credentialising thing you can do other than get a ‘real’ book published so good luck with your quest on that!

Webinars are a good way to get started and somebody of your calibre should be doing more of them – I am doing my first one in a while tomorrow and it’s something I should be doing a lot more of too.

Your Ireland blog was great btw, some really good stuff on there.

    Speak soon.

The seminars are great. I can’t wait to get to more. I’ve done one webinar and I’m in the process of planning another one real soon. I guess it’s the first step on my path to becoming a better public speaker.

It was great to hang out at the seminar and after. Will see you in July ;)

I agree with you, Mike Koenigs was one of the nicest guys I have had the pleasure of spending time with. He took a lot of time to speak to us and was a real genuine dude.

Lets definitely catch another baseball game when I am in town next.

  25. Poppie says:

    Hi Matt,
Can totally relate to the nerves of public speaking.
On my first attempt I was shaking so much, my legs were rattling and one of my shoes actually came off!
    No kidding!
I am under 5 ft tall, so you can imagine me shrinking more under the podium thingy at front, trying to find my shoe with the shaking leg, all the time going as red as & trying to keep my speech going!

They say most people on their first attempt at speaking publicly, would rather be in the casket than the one giving an eulogy!
I can tell you, I was wishing the earth would open up on that occasion…
But, persevere I did and over the past 10 years have spoken to large audiences at various gatherings and kept both shoes on!
    Kindest,
    Poppie

  26. Hi Matt, Just wanted to say that I love your blog. Layout and content is awesome!
